Cathodic Protection at Holborn Redevelopment: Metec Supports JF Hunt and Sealane Inshore

Published by Metec on

Metec Cathodic Protection Limited, part of the Metec Group, is proud to have successfully delivered the galvanic anode cathodic protection (CP) system for the prestigious Holborn redevelopment on the River Tyne. We worked in collaboration with our dive partners, Sealane Inshore, and civil engineering specialists, JF Hunt. This project marks another significant achievement in safeguarding vital UK marine infrastructure.

Project Overview

The Holborn development is located in South Shields. It is a major regeneration scheme transforming disused dockland into a vibrant riverside quarter. Metec’s contribution involved the design, supply, and installation of a long-life cathodic protection system to protect key maritime structures from corrosion over the next 25 years.

The team safely and efficiently installed a total of 229 standoff anodes—ranging from 19kg to 78kg—between February and April, completing the work without incident. Metec designed these zinc anodes to provide galvanic protection against corrosion in harsh marine environments. This protects the structure’s longevity and reduces long-term maintenance costs.

Collaboration & Delivery

This project showcases a strong partnership between local North East companies. Metec worked closely with Sealane Inshore and JF Hunt to deliver the system to the highest technical standards, on time and without compromising safety.

Paul Wheeler, Technical Director at Metec, commented:

“This project was a great win for the company. To be involved in a site with such historical significance on the Tyne is fantastic. We’re proud to support developments that will have a lasting impact in the region. I’d like to personally thank the team at JF Hunt for their support throughout and look forward to future opportunities.”

Ryan Wilkinson, Director at Sealane Inshore, added:

“It’s great to see local companies collaborating and putting trust in our collective expertise. This was a prestigious project undergoing transformative change on the Tyne, and it has been a pleasure to work once again with both Metec and JF Hunt. We’re excited for the next project.”
