Metec Showcases Engineering Excellence in Inch Cape Offshore Wind Project
Metec Cathodic Protection Company is proud to have played a pivotal role in the Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm, delivering cutting-edge cathodic protection systems for the project’s substation jacket foundation. This milestone not only highlights Metec’s deep-rooted expertise in corrosion protection but also underscores our commitment to supporting the UK’s offshore wind supply chain and local content initiatives.

Galvanic Anode Supply for a Key Renewable Energy Infrastructure
As part of our scope for the Inch Cape project, Metec supplied the galvanic anode cathodic protection system for the offshore substation jacket. The delivery included:
- 356 platform nodes
- 288 nodes at 620 kg each
- 68 nodes at 400 kg each
- A total of 206 tonnes of high-performance anodes
This complex and large-scale scope required high levels of precision engineering and project management excellence.
Engineering Ingenuity at Its Best
Inch Cape presented unique engineering challenges, particularly around the fabrication of anode pipes. These were “cod mouthed” to allow welding of doubler pads to the structure—demanding exceptional accuracy due to the 168mm outer diameter of the pipes and strict tolerances of ±3mm.
Our team rose to the challenge, ensuring:
- Zero fit-up or engineering issues
- 100% on-time and in-full delivery
- Exceptional client feedback from Smulders, our project partner
Supporting the UK Supply Chain & Local Economy
Metec’s involvement in Inch Cape wasn’t limited to manufacturing. We actively supported the North East supply chain, subcontracting to a local company for jig component fabrication and working with regional transport providers for efficient logistics.
This reflects our long-standing commitment to local content, creating opportunities and building capacity within the UK’s renewable energy sector.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Offshore Wind Talent
Beyond the engineering and supply chain impact, Metec also used the Inch Cape project to engage with local college students, offering insight into real-world offshore wind projects. It’s a key part of our mission to promote careers in the green energy sector and inspire the next generation of skilled professionals.
