Successful Installation of Galvanic Anode Cathodic Protection System at Neptune Energy Park

Published by Metec on

Metec Group, in partnership with Sealane Inshore and Shepherd Offshore, recently completed the installation of Phase One of the galvanic anode cathodic protection system at Neptune Energy Park. This critical project, located on the River Tyne, demonstrates Metec’s continued success in protecting local infrastructure.

Project Overview: Galvanic Anode Cathodic Protection System Installation

The system included 245 stand-off anodes, each weighing 115kg, designed to last 25 years. These anodes will protect the infrastructure from corrosion, ensuring the longevity of the project. The installation was carried out smoothly in February and March, with no incidents, thanks to the strong collaboration between Metec, Sealane Inshore, and Shepherd Offshore.

Therefore, this installation adds to Metec’s growing portfolio of successful projects on the River Tyne, where the company has designed and installed numerous cathodic protection systems.

Collaboration Between Local Companies

Paul Wheeler, Technical Director at Metec, commented,

“This project is part of a long line of successful contract wins for Metec, helping protect the River Tyne’s infrastructure. Along with Sealane, we’ve designed, manufactured, and installed cathodic protection systems across the region. We’re proud to be selected for these vital projects, and we look forward to working with more local businesses along the Tyne.”

“I’d also like to thank Shepherd Offshore for their support throughout the project. The cooperation between all parties ensured minimal disruption to their daily operations, enabling us to complete the installation efficiently.”

Why Cathodic Protection Matters

Cathodic protection is essential for preventing corrosion in metal structures exposed to water, particularly in harsh marine environments. By using a galvanic anode system, we shield structures for decades, reduce maintenance needs, and extend their operational life.

Ryan Wilkinson, Director at Metec, reflected,

“It’s fantastic to see local companies collaborating and trusting our expertise to maintain the integrity of Tyne’s infrastructure. Working again with Shepherd Offshore has been a great experience, and we look forward to future projects together.”

The Future of Cathodic Protection on the Tyne

Metec Group remains dedicated to providing cutting-edge solutions for infrastructure protection on the River Tyne. The successful completion of the Neptune Energy Park project highlights the company’s expertise and commitment to quality and safety. Metec is eager to continue supporting local businesses and expanding its role in enhancing the protection of critical infrastructure.
